ical appearance completely changed and preferences don't display and have to force quit to exit every time

after a recent update, the appearance of ical changed completely. i can't access preferences (don't display) and have to force quit every time to exit the program. using a macbook air, mountain lion 10.8.2. only used for appts, etc. no fancy stuff; no sync with anything. just want plain old calendar back. thanks

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

kwhark,

Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.

Then go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check Calendar for functionality.
