Resetting iPad 1
I just received a used ipad1 and to be on the safe side I performed a hard reset to get rid of all old data. Is there a way to get around needing iTunes to finish setting up the iPad?

No. Sounds like the iPad was not running the latest OS available for it (for the 1st gen, that would be iOS 5.1.1). In iOS 5 and later, the device can be set up-- on the device. In older versions, iTunes is required. Do you not own or have access to a computer?
Not one with iTunes on it. I am running a linux box using Fedora 17. I am trying to download and install iTunes for windows under wine but I am having some difficulty doing that. So I was seeking an alternative.
Well, you're going to need iTunes, so hopefully you know someone who has a Windows or Mac machine, or maybe even try your local public library...
