I need to move my itunes library from my old hard drive from my now defunct laptop to my new one
Can someone please advise how to go about this so I avoid making mistakes that I have with iphoto etc when doing the same

Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from the old hard drive to /Music/ on the new hard drive.
Thank Chris I have just done that. How do I now get them in to Itunes ?
Make sure iTunes is not running. Hold option and click the iTunes icon on your dock. Do not release option until the choose library window opens. Click the button to select your library and navigate to your iTunes folder and choose it.
Works like that in iPhoto, too, since you mentioned it. 🙂
Brilliant, all imported and I have been struggling with the terminology with iphoto so will try this approach too

If you simply copy the iTUnes folder to /Music/ and launch iTUnes, everythign will be there. No need to import anything.
This will work the same with iPhoto.
Simply copy the Photo library to /Pictures/ folder and launch iPhoto.
Sounded like iTunes was already opened at one point, so it's then necessary to direct iTunes to the right library.
...unless you copy over top of that existing library, if there was one...assuming the other library is named iTunes...and of course it doesn't matter if there's no iTunes library at all and the incoming library is named iTunes...
