ipad 4 glass durability

I had an ipad 2 since they came out, just sold it yesterday and still looked good, not perfect but good. i went straight to the apple store and got the new ipad 4. Took it home and was using it and my cat ran across is and left a deep scratch. So deep I can feel it with my finger. I thought it was even stonger than regular glass like gorilla glass. The same cat will sit at my window and scratch to get in or out and theres no scratches on my windows. This happened within the first hour I had it. I called apple and they started saying well you can send it in for repair but theres a charge. Thats about the time I got off the phone. My 2 questions are If its glass how is that possible and has anyone had a similar experience and Apple took care of it for them.

The iPad glass is scratch and fingerprint resistant - not scratchproof or fingerprintproof.

No matter what else anyone on this discussion site claims that Apple did for them - it certainly will not help your case at all. It is merely anecdotal evidence and it proves and means absolutely nothing in this situation.

Excuse me for being blunt, but your carelessness with the iPad is not Apple's fault and why you would expect them to do anything for free when this is clearly misuse of the iPad is beyond me.

Excuse me for being blunt but are you just trolling or are you really that much of an *******?

If the latter, then read on.

When did I blame apple or say I expect them to do anything? It was in my hands when it got scratched. Just told my story and asked my questions which you answered neither. I was hoping to get more detailed information about the glass than what the apple site has so I can determine for myself if I was negligent and deserve to have to stare at this permanent scar or was I mislead in terms of durability and should frown on apple products. I was told and I quote "its really hard to scratch" by an apple employee. Then a deep scratch easily appears. See where I am going with this?

As far as what others have to say about their own experience not meaning anything. Wrong. To my opinion of apples customer service it could mean everything but thats not up to you to decide.
