Remote Disc randomly appeared in Finder and cannot be removed...
Hello,
I just got my first Mac, so forgive me if this is a dumb question...
I've had my iMac for about a month and today, randomly, the Remote Disc icon showed up in the Finder. I can delete it from the sidebar, but have not been able to delete it from the main Finder window. (That is, if I select John's iMac in the menu bar, it shows Macintosh HD, Network, and Remote Disc). I've tried to disable and restart all of the items on the menu bar... but whenever I select John's iMac, it always returns.
It does not appear when I boot the machine in Safe Mode.
I noticed it today after I installed a virtual machine (to run Ubuntu) using Virtualbox. I was afraid that that caused the Remote Disc to appear, so after trying everything I could find online to remove it, I uninstalled the virtual machine and made sure to delete all the files associated with Virtualbox... still no luck.
I called tech support... and while they were nice, I was not confident their answer was truthful... after about forty minutes of trouble shooting, I was basically told that "Um, it's a feature and it just kind of magically appears..." I wish I were making that up.
I even went so far as to try and reinstall the operating system using the recovery mode... no luck.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
iMac
