since last itunes update i cant sync my ipod touch

Since the last i tunes update (11.0.2) i can't sync my i pod touch. It won't even charge on my laptop now buy you hear the beep when its plugged in.

I've tried all the help topics that I'm capable of but I'm afraid of deleting i tunes and re installing bcoz i don't want to lose all my music.

Any advice?
