Edimax EW 7811UN nano usb Wifi Adapter- wont work ?

Hi

running 10.6.8

Mac Pro (TOWER)

NO AIR card; so purchased a EDIMAX EW 7811-UN nano (micro) USB WifI unit;

all the reports are great on Amazon, but can NOT get this card to work in ANY way;

- have downloaded the driver from the Edimax site for 10.6

it even sets up a new application Wireless Networks Utility (with yellow fan out symbol) in the Application Folder;

double clicking upon this icon, it flashes the 'fan' but nothing: does not open up any config pages or anything?

- How can I get WifI on my Mac Pro tower to work ? ((nb i wish to use the new REMOTE app, to contorl my i-tunes upon it)

((i does not show anythng else up in network/ only Ethernet ports 1 /2 so cant even see it too config?))

please help, Thank you....

😕

((nb this is a SECOND Mac, so the config description im my detail, below, are wrong ))

This was the only thing that worked for me on MacOS Sierra:-

Get the Edimax driver from:- http://www.edimax.com/edimax/download/download/data/edimax/global/download/for_h ome/wireless_adapters/wireless_adapters_…

Then you need to install the install.pkg using an app called Pacifist:- CharlesSoft — software you always wished someone would write

Once thats done and after a reboot the Wireless App will actually appear and allow you to connect to a wireless access point!

A guy has gone a good video here:- How to use Edimax EW‑7811UN WiFi dongle on Mac OSX 10.11 El Capitan. - YouTube

the config utility creates a new Ethernet port in

System Preferences > Network

It is not intuitive, but that is where you START the detailed set-up, then go back to the Utilty for the rest:

Open System Preference and go to Network.

If you see a new Ethernet adapter show up, that is the Nano Wireless adapter. Just click on Apply.

If you do not see a new Ethernet adapter show up, you can Edit Location and add a new location. The default name for Location is Untitled. You can change it to a different name. Click on Done.

While you are back to Network status, you should see the new Ethernet adapter show up.

Close Network.

Go back to Wireless Network Utility.

Go to the tab of “Available Network”. Your 2.4GHz wireless network should show up. Select your wireless network. Click on “Add to Profile”.
