My new I-Pod shuffle does nothing at all.

my ipod shuffle does not do anything after syncing. I put music on it and charged it then the next day went to use it. It will not play music and when I try to sync to the mac it does not show up in I-Tunes. Also, there is a red idicator that comes on as soon as you plug it into the computer then goes off after a few seconds.

This is a brand new device just got it for christmas never used before.
