ipod doesn't turn on

I updated to latest apple itunes two days ago and it didn't recognize my ipod, after much wrestling and restarts, it started working, after a full sync, I shut down the laptop with ipad still plugged in --- then I detached it yesterday and took off with the laptop. Came back to ipod last night and it was lifeless ... so I plugged it in overnight and this morning, still dead ... connected it to the laptop and still no life ... any suggestions? Thanks!
