Re-format iPod from Windows to Mac without losing songs/restoring...?

Intel or PowerPC's got nothing to do with it, it's an operating system issue. Windows can't read HFS+ (the Mac OS drive system), whereas MacOS can read from and write to FAT32, the format used for iPod's in Windows. The only way to use an iPod with both OS's is to have it formatted in Windows with FAT32.

That's a bunch of crap. It's his iPod, and he can use it as he wants to. The default settings are not "the law", they are just the default settings.

The windows formatted iPod should still work on the MacBook Pro, now make sure you hold down Command + Option when you connect the iPod and continue holding them until they are completely mounted. What this does is does not allow the computer to update the iPod, and if a pop-up comes up, do not allow it to update the iPod. Now, we can back-up the songs. Yamipod is great for this.

Now, if you still have your old computer, i suggest using your iPod in disk mode to put all your songs on it, and import them into iTunes on your Macbook Pro, and to re-format the iPod so that it will be Mac formatted.

I have sort of a similar probblem. I transferred all my files onto my home PC from my ipod so I could reformat it for my mac laptop. Now my ipod works for my mac and I'm able to transfer files on and off it, before I couldn't.
Now I want to put the music from my home PC back onto ipod but windows won't let me. will this yamipod site help with my problem as well?

I hope I'm making some sense. Please help me.

If you use the ipod as it is designed for, you should still have all of the music on your computer. I tranfered all of my 6000 songs over to my imac when I got it from my pc. Reformatted my ipod for mac and reloaded my music. Are we to assume the music on it is not yours, or that it all died with the previous pc.

I'll try to explain this again, in as simple terms as possible:

If iPod is formatted for Windows (FAT32), it will work in Windows OS, or Mac OS.

If iPod is formatted for Mac (HFS+), it will only work in Mac OS.

What kind of computer or processor has no bearing on it whatsoever, it's the OS that counts.

Technically, the mac will recognize an ipod formatted for pc as it will use either mac formatted or pc formatted ipods. Windows will only recognize pc formatted ipods. Don't mess with it and the problem is solved. Just leave it as is and it should work if you are concerned about your files.

Windows cannot read a Mac formatted disk but Mac can read a Windows formatted disk.

A bit new to macs, but surely if both the Macbook (or imac/macbookpro etc.)and the PC have intel you should be able to use the ipod without re-formatting or using boot camp

Would it work if you loaded boot camp and then installed ipod software for windows?

Even with Boot Camp, you still have to have a copy of Windows to install.

Will I be able to update the songs from my Mac itunes with an ipod formatted on Fat32 ?
