Your right. It does fade but a computer this new shouldn't be doing it in the first place. BTW mine was a CTO. don't know about yours. not sure whether that's made a difference.

Dreading taking this in to Apple as CTO's always take ages to get replaced and if the screens gone they'll probably just want to replace it. Hello 4 week wait : (

Mine is also a BTO, 3.4GHz i7/16GB/1TBFusion Drive/GTX 680MX video Card.
I do not want to wait 4 weeks, can't really as this is my main work computer at this time. Other than that, if it's a commin issue, how can they really fix it? my biggest fear is that they will replace it and a month later the problem will happen again.
Does anyone know if Apple typically lets the customer keep the faulty machine until the replacement arrives?

If you haven't purchased Apple Care and you're within the 1 year warranty period, you might consider making the purchase. It extends your warranty to 3 years and gives you access to tech support and repairs under warranty if needed.

I've got Apple Care but that doesn't get it fixed any faster unfortunately.
Really interested to see if others are having this problem. Your screen shot was just like my login screen big boxes. First i thought I must have had some kind of transparancy setting turned on so I could see open windows behind the login screen and then it dawned on me.
Probably going to take mine in late this week depending on work. i'll keep posting as i get feed back.

1. Live with it since its a "minor" issue.
2. Get a full refund.
Took the refund. Will revisit the new imac when they fix those issues.

Did they say anything else. like it will never be permanent it will just always come and go or did they give any indication at all if all 27"s or just some were doing it.
That shot of the screen is hardly "Minor" and it seems like they'd do a recall if the the issue was acknowledged to the point of, "we can't fix it or gaurantee a replacement won't do it as well, so have a refund instead".
So basically Apple are continuing to sell a unit with a problem that has been acknowledged. They know they can't fix it and if some one complains then give them a refund.
**** I new this New 27" iMac looked too good to be true. oh it would have been nice to know in advance that I couldn't install bootcamp on the 3TB fusion drive as well.

Feb 24, 2013 6:02 PM in response to OrangeMarlinby mic773,@OrangeMarlin, instead of being ignorant, just a quick search on the Apple support communities will show you that I'm not alone at this. Acutally, don't even look that far, jCurve above is reporting the same thing.
Anyway, I will say that Apple support was great and that they issued the refund promptly and without too many complications. I really liked that new iMac, it was almost the best desktop I've ever had, but in the end of the day, between the image retention issue, no bootcamp on 3tb and other annoyances, this is hardly a perfect machine.
As I said - will revisit iMacs when they figure those issues out.
@jCurve, Apple did say that they have heard of this issue, espically with the new Retina display Macbook Pros, and their view on it is that it's a "minor" issue that is easily resolved if you turn your screensaver on. I explained that a screensaver won't help when I use a program like Xcode or Word, where the same window is visible at all times, leaving a blue frame behind it when I close the program down. They had no answer, so had to give me the refund.

If we're going to go all anecdotal, which apparently is the standard of statistical purity, my brand-new 27" iMac works perfectly. Oh my, must be a 67% failure rate.

Apple would have exchanged it and not immediately offer me a refund if they didn't recognize there was a flaw with that first revision of new iMacs.

Fact is I know my equipment well enough not to come crying for help every time I hit a problem. If, while i'm here I see something I can answer I will but I am rarely here unless I have a REAL issue.
This isn't about 'trends so get off your level 5 high and mighty 4600 point horse and recognise that this thread is simply about two people who have the same issue and are concerned it may be indicative of a wider problem. Particularly if Apple is offering refunds instead of replacements.
Honestly don't know why your so concerned. I'm glad that you iMac is working perfectly. Please post if it develops an issue or you have something helpful to add such as, 'Hi guys these are my specs and i don't seem to be having any probs" otherwise take a long walk off a short pier.
