my ipad is stuck on the backup message

Hi,

My recently purchased IPad 4 has suddenly decided to get stuck with the 'ipad not backed up' message.

I cannot get to my homepage or perform any other tasks, when I press ok the back up message does not dissapear.

Can anyone help me with this?
