I can't find "Devices" listing on Itunes?

Trying to load music on my new Ipod Shuffle but have two problems.

First, Help tells me to find my Ipod under "Devices" in Itunes - but there is no "Devices."

Second, everytime I plug my Ipod in I get a pop up that says I need to update to version 10.6.3 (or something like that). It doesn't tell me which device - so I updated my computer and still get the pop-up, and can't figure out how to (or why I would need to) update my brand new device.

Can anyone advise please.

Thank you

TY, Illaass - OK, I connected iphone to computer via USB and it now does show. Perhaps my memory fails me, but I thought my devices always showed before, even if not connected. I'll come back to this for more study later, out of time now. I'm almost certain iTunes found my ipad (wifi connected) before. It is now on and connected to power (but not my computer) and iTunes isn't displaying it). If I go to Prefernces --> Devices, all my devices are listed (just history there, I guess)
