Since turning off FileVault the folllowing has occurred:

All documents listed in the Finder have a "blank" icon.

All documents are locked. When I unlock a document in "Get Info"

          it re-locks when launched again.

          Many folders are locked.

Documents which were on the Desktop have disappeared.

I have tried running Disk Doctor and have repaired permissions.

Can anyone help, please?

Maybe this will help. You'll need to create some documents to test after trying the first item.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work.

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the grey Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal.

Permission rebuild user account: You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  'resetpassword' (without the 's) and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Look at System Preferences/iCloud. It is the second to last option.

Got it. It had not been selected.
