If I connect an external mic to my ipad to improve the sound when using the video will my new ipad use the mic (connected via jack) or continue to use the default inbuilt microphone? Am considering either a sansom gomic or irig mc cast for use when interviewing people.

To answer this question more directly, yes, a USB mic can be connected to iPad2 via the USB adapter in the Camera Connection Kit. The Camera/Video app will switch to the external mic automatically. (Tested with the Blue Snowball mic.)
I have connected the Snowball mic to my iPad with the CCK but there's no indication that the mic is being recognized. I can record with the Audio Recorder in GarageBand but it's not using the external mic. GB says to activate the "Monitor" under input settings in order to use external mic,, but that doesn't seem to help. (also says that the "Monitor" setting will be below the Noise Gate and it's actually above.) Would appreciate help!
I just plugged in the Blue Spark Digital mic and as soon as I opening the video camera app, the blue indicator light lit up on the mic. This mic connects directly through the lighting jack on my iPad Air. Super easy, no drivers, etc.
