“Show Character Viewer” appears in my Input Sources menu, but when I click it, no window appears. When I look in the menu again, it says “Hide Character Viewer”, even though I don’t see it. Someone please help. DX

How about when you do Edit > Special Characters from TextEdit?

No, going to the Edit menu in TextEdit just does the same thing. Keyboard Viewer works fine.
Try trashing the .plist in Home/Library/Preferences with CharPalette or CharViewer in its name and then restarting. To get to Home/Library you need to hold the Option key down while doing Finder > Go.
What happens if you go to Language & Text preferences and deselect all input soures except Keyboard & Character Viewer?
Unchecking all the input sources except for Keyboard & Character Viewer didn’t work, but I gonna keep it like that for now, until I’ve got this resolved.
There are “com.apple.CharacterPaletteIM.plist” and “com.apple.CharacterPicker.plist”. Which one should I trash?
Try them one at a time, then test.

You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

CharacterPicker is the popup menu you get when you hold down a vowel key on the keyboard.
So just move “com.apple.CharacterPaletteIM.plist” to the Trash, empty the trash, and restart my computer?
I already added it to my sidebar, as I need it a lot.
