Q: why ipad will not restore

Yesterday I went to charge up my ipad,at the time it was using a current version of ios. Then soon as I plugged it to the charger it asks me to "connect to itunes", when I plugged it to itunes it asks me to restore the item,but when i try to restore, the message pops up, (The ipad "ipad" device could not be restored. This device isnt eligible for the requested build).  What do I do?
