Feb 24, 2013 4:04 PM in response to jessiefromndby Barney-15E,Open Image Capture and Import them. It should allow you to choose the destination.
If it has a card and you have the appropriate card reader, you can open the card in the Finder and drag them to the external drive. They are normally in a folder named DCIM, but that could be different, I suppose.

Feb 24, 2013 8:29 PM in response to jessiefromndby Barney-15E,From the Finder, go into the drive to the folder where you want to create the new folder and select New Folder from the File menu (cmd-shift-N).
From Image Capture, select Other… from the Import To popup menu.
In the File Save dialog, navigate to where you want the new folder, then click "New Folder" button.
