Sep 21, 2015 6:56 PM in response to gregproulx001by mjcramer,Thanks gregproulx001! This suggestion was a lifesaver!
I was getting the same error message, "There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run."
I unpacked iTunesSetup.exe using WinRAR as b noir suggested, then deleted "AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi" as you suggested, then ran "iTunes.msi."
It worked like magic! I have no idea why it worked, but I'm thankful it did.

Oct 12, 2015 9:12 AM in response to AuntieTby Seops,Hi AuntieT,
I have tried everything said above, especially the "B Noir," but only managed to complete the iTunes installation. After the installation, it wont open now (iTunes).
I am now interested in finding out how to fix the Microsoft compatibility issue you mention here.
Kindly assist.
Regards

Oct 12, 2015 9:36 AM in response to Seopsby turingtest2,From the programs and features control panel start by attempting to repair Apple Software Update, then try installing iTunes again. If that doesn't work read on...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach.
Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to anolder version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
If the issue persists and you have a 64-bit system try the for older video cards version which is a 64-bit installer for mostly 32-bit code, similar to all 64-bit versions of iTunes up to 12.1.
If you've tried the above without success then see the method in Install missing components. What component fails to install, and what error message does it give? See this post for steps to produce detailed logs of the installation which may reveal why iTunes won't install. Look for words like failed or error.

Oct 30, 2015 5:46 AM in response to Seopsby Seops,Hi All,
It turned out the issue was my OS. I was still on Windows 7, and not on Service Pack 1. After applying the Windows Service Pack 1, iTunes works perffectly as it should. I had changed machines and had been recently issued with a new one, that came without the service pack.
Thanks,
Seops

Dec 13, 2015 8:55 PM in response to gregproulx001by PHijduk,After I deleted the "AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi" through the WinRar folder and ran the "iTunes6464.msi" it installed all the way through. Upon launch of the program it error-ed stating it was missing something (sorry I didn't grab it for detail). I went back into the WinRar folder and installed the remaining files "AppleAplicatioSupport.msi" AppleAplicationsSupport64.msi" and "AppleMobileDeviceSupport646.msi" . This time at launch it fully loaded and was good to use.
Thank you B Noir and gregproulx001 !

Dec 19, 2015 12:58 AM in response to gregproulx001by karasnikof,Yes, very strange. This worked for me too, i.e. deleting the applesoftwareupdate.msi and just running the itunes6464.msi (as I have a 64bit machine). My only surprise is that Apple with all its powerful development team can't sort this issue out once and for all. It's been around a long time.
Apply guys, come on now!!!
