What happened to my iPhone 5? it won't turn on?

I was using my iPhone 5 perfectly and then after a few minutes of being idle it turned black. I know I stil have about 33% in battery but it won't turn on again. I tried connecting to the charger but there weren't the familiar sound whenever you plug to the charger. Also, tried connecting to my Macbook PRo where I usually do the sync and backup but the iPhone was also not recognized.

Should I request for a replacement? Geez, this is barely 3 months old iPhone 5.

iPhone 5, iOS 5.1.1

Pressing the home and power button does nothing for me. My phone just shows a charging icon and it's been stuck on the red battery icon. It's been hours and my phone hasn't turned in yet. I need help.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore

Follow the 3R's- if a restart does not solve your problem proceed

User troubleshooting is:

1.restart, ie power off/on,

2. reset http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430,

3. restore from backup, restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

This solved my problem...

"...if that doesnt work, press and hold top power button and round circular home button for 6-8 seconds until you see an apple appear, then let go."
