Q: black ipad screen wont turn on

OK, I'm a pretty skeptical guy when it comes to following advise on support forums. But I have to say, I whacked my iPad 2 on a tabletop a couple of times, and I swear it fixed this problem for me too. I'm guessing the internal screen connectors got dislodged during use and whacking it made contact again.

I whacked it 3x and initially didn't come on. Massaged the entire back part of the iPad, it must have fixed something because it came on after hard resetting it again for like the millionth time.

Bottom line: your idea works, led me to my iPad fix! Apple support knows sh*t! You definitely deserve some kudos and some respect! Thanks again for your guidance.

I've had an ipad 2 sitting around for maybe 2 years because it wouldnt turn on. I came across your method and thought I'd give it a shot. Couldn't stop laughing after your method made it turn back on. Sharp Whacks for the win

I been looking for answers for the same problem for 2 days. The phone only turn on when connected, but it always the same dim black blank screen. Hard reset and recovery didn't work, so I have to take it to genius bar tomorrow.

Awesome Stanjman! I had the same problem and had just been told the LED screen was kaput and would cost me over $200 to replace. So I was doing some further research and found your post. Whack whack whack and it's fully back on again like nothing happened! Thanks so much.

Unbelievable.   Didn't believe it either.  But when all else failed...  I whacked it against my leg a few times, the screen flashed and went dark.  A few more whacks against my leg and the screen came back alive.

I had a black screen for some weeks and nothing helped (new Itunes, other PC, new USB cable...). Thanks a lot to Stanjman.Three sharp whacks and it worked again.

But this IPad will be definitely my last Apple device. I will switch to Microsoft Surface Pro 4.

Some time ago I thought Apple products are reliable but after searching thousands of posts I saw how many people had unbelieveable problems with their Apple devices.

I will never recommend any Apple device again. Switch to Microsoft products. These got very professional the last years.

i did hold the Power + Home button until an apple logo appear and it's worked.

even the whack didn't worked for my brother's iPad but you're still the legend.

Same problem, bad screen won't respond so I gave it three knocks on the backside and the baby awoke.  I thought this might be a joke, but it worked.

I have tried everything thats been mentioned on here even the 3 knocks nothing has worked my ipad has nothing showing on the screen but still connects to itunes etc.

itunes says it need to be restored i restore it and then it just sits on 'preparing ipad for restore' and never changes sits there forever i left it for  hours and nothing changed

also i took the ipad in to the store they said they didn't have a clue what was up with it and wanted to charge me £250 for a new one. im not paying that when

this iPad is less than a year old

(its no longer under warranty already had a problem with the charging port and got an extension on the warranty.... then a few days after the extension ends this happens)

I had the exact same problem and followed the advice of ZintainUSA  (hold down the power and home buttons for 10-15 seconds) and it worked. Whew. Thanks.
