Q: Ram Upgrade

21.5-inch, Mid 2011 i mac system. I have 2+2=4 gb ram ,can i upgrade 4+4=8 with additional two slots.that means total 8+4=12.its possible or any mismatch on this ram combination.Thanks in Advance.

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

That type of installation doesn't affect to anything in your Mac, and it doesn't make sense that it causes hard disk problems (one thing is the hard disk and another thing is the memory). In the iMac you have, you can install 16 GB of memory if you want (4x4 GB), and you want to install 8 GB (4x2 GB), so there isn't any problem doing it

As Eric said, it's a completely valid solution, and in general, it's one of the recommended configurations by Apple because you can get Dual Channel using it, providing a slightly better performance.

You can buy the memory for the iMac in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC). If you need help installing the RAM, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423?viewlocale=en_US#1

some people said this type of instalation will cause their harddisk.you remove 2+2 =4.and install 4+4=8.this is only correct way to install the ram, like thet.please help me......,,,,, eric
