Looking for a fast way to eject instead of going to disk utility every single time.

MacBook Air, iOS 6.1.2, What to download and delete.

Besides, draging to the trash and Command-E, you can also Right-Click (Control-Click) and select eject, you can look at the Finder side-bar for the mounted volume and click on the up pointing triangle next to the volume. And if your keyboard has an eject button, select the volume and press the key. If you are a Terminal user, you can use the umount command. There is also a command line diskutil unmount command.

The .dmg file shows on my desktop, I drag it to trash nothing happens. When I right click the .dmg file i don't see "eject". Maybe because it is stil running? I just want to delete the whole .dmg file. sometimes i want to delete the whole program as well.

When I do the command- e nothing happens. I select the .dmg file on my desktop then do command e nothing happens.

So far only way I can do it is through disk utility

The DMG file is not the mount. Once you open the DMG file there will be a seperate mounted volume. You must eject the mounted volume before you can delete the DMG. IF you are not seeing the mount on your desktop, it may be advantagous to turn it on by clicking on Finder > Preferences > Show these items on the desktop > External Disks. That will allow you to see the mounted volumes on the desktop. From there just click the mount and press Command + E to eject. Then you can delete the DMG.
