Restoring an Ipad via backup

How do I return everything to my ipad as was, after restoring? I have a backup done today. How do I use it to return all I had on my ipad before I restored it (i have not done the restore yet, thought I'd ask first...)

First of all, where are you backing up? iCloud or iTunes? In either case, you data, files, notes, writings, etc. should be stored in the backup. If you use file sharing with iTunes, then some of those files might be in iTunes on the computer.

Secondly, why do you think that you need to restore the iPad? Problems, issues?

I back up on an external drive (itunes), as my lap top has a very small hard drive. I am not sure about that, read a post on here by someone who tried just that and lost all their photos, not talking already about data etc. I think I used file sharing, how do you do that? just in case? Problems: yes, there is a big problem which is gobbling up almost half my hard drive, 5.32 GB to be exact (it's a 16 GB ipad, which means it has just over 13 GB of space for use), in the use tab on itunes it is called "other" and appears to be the largest partition of space use on there. All this crap started after my last iOs update... no such issues before... ever. I do not know how to get the space back and restore currently seems to be the only option.

OK. The dreaded "other" issue.

Your download and install of the iOS got corrupted. "Other" is basically anything that is not the media itself, like apps, books, photos, movies etc, but rather the data that is associated with the apps. Safari history and bookmarks, notes, calendar entries, camera roll photos, text messages and things like that are also part of "other". Typically this should only take up about a few hundred MB and maybe up to 1.5 GB depending on how many files, documents and that type of information on the device.

If you were using file sharing, then you would probably know about it already, but look at this.

iOS: About File Sharing

Usually, restoring the iPad is recommended for this issue, but you can Google this and look for some other things that might work before you restore the iPad completely. The reason that I suggest Google or an Internet search is that different things have worked for different people, so there is no hard and fast rule about how to handle this.

That is what I thought! Corrupted install and download... I wander if I upgrade to the next iOS version, would or might that solve this problem?

I tried the steps outlined in the link above, but all my files from pages on the ipad are not visible in the tab on right after I selected the app... I do not know why.... because I have lots of them. The only thing it seems to want to do is transfer files from my laptop to ipad, which I don't need. As it's the ipad I want to back up.

I will look more on line... let us hope I find something.

When you use file sharing - if you want to send the files to iTunes on your computer - tap on the wrench icon in the upper right corner of the Pages on the iPad, tap on share and print, then tap on Copy to iTunes. Select the format for the file. Connect the iPad to your computer to sync and then the files should transfer into iTunes and from there you can copy them to your hard drive as well

You should be able to get all of your Pages files over to iTunes this way. At least you can save these files.
