I was wondering if anybody had information on upgrading the usb ports on a mid 2010 macbook pro. Pleae help.

The only hardware upgrades that can be done are to the memory and mass storage/hard drive. The rest of the system cannot be upgraded.
If you are asking can the USB 2 ports on the MBP be upgrade to USB 3, the answer is no way.

USB3 is backwards compatible with USB2 protocol.
There have been instances where this has not worked however with some enclosures, the work around has been to add inline USB hub.
