I find that I constantly reject calls when I pick up my iPhone because the "Reply with message" screen is touched before I can find the "Answer" button. I can't find a setting to turn off the "Reply with message" "feature" only to change the message. How do I get rid of this annoying "feature?"
You can try to go to Settings > Phone > Reply With Message. Then just tap the x next to the responses to delete them. I don't think I can be turned off. Just don't rush when answering, the answer button is the green one.
I have had the same problem. Last week, I actually responded with "what's up" to a client! It was horrifying and embarassing and I had to perfusely apologize. How unprofessional. A lot of consulting firms are starting to use iPhones, so Apple had better get a fix for this quick.

I have only found one solution: to put a password on my phone, and then go to settings -> general -> passlock -> reply with message OFF. Is there a way to do this without having to add a passcode?
I agree completely. I just upgraded to an iPhone5s with iOS8 and am seriously thinking about returning it and going back to my 4s which still has iOS6 because of this feature. This is a stupid feature if you keep your phone in your pocket or purse and I am sure I will accidentally hit that and send a message to a client with it.
That doesn't do it. The three stock messages are grey and have no "X."
When I pick up my phone out of my pocket, the reply buttons are triggered before I can see the screen.
Apple REALLY needs to take care of this. It's destroying my business, as I seem to accidentally hit the stupid button EVERY time I fish my phone out of my purse.
