Streaming iTunes using Airport Express

I want to stream iTunes from my iMac in the lounge to my kitchen using Airport Express and a Ruark Audio R4 hifi system but when I click the Wi-Fi icon on the menu bar there is no Airport Express Base Unit showing it cannot locate it on my wireless network the amber light is flashingon the base unit indicating unable to find a Wi-Fi Network, any help please would be great.
