Q: server extend network with airport express

hi,

i have a Airport Extreme connected with my server with Ethernet cable. the Server manages the entire network services. now i want to connect my Airport Express via Wi-Fi to this network and use it to extend the network and stream via AirPlay music to my speakers. but unfortunatly i couldn´t get a solution on the Airport Express options i never see my network name!

is there anyway i can expand the network with the AirPort Express and use the AirPlay on Server?

any sugestion is welcome

Have you seen http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259? Also, could you describe the problems you encounted with the Airport Express when you say you could not get a solution?

thank you for your time, the page you show me is the normal basic configuration, if you are not running under a Server. Running under Server the Server App manages the AirPort Extreme and looks like it not allowed to use the Express to expand the Network, for what i understood until now the Express Port has the limitation and does not access to WPA Entreprise RADIUS from the Extreme port

looks that if i want to expand the network i have to buy anothe Extreme Basestation, but then i can not AirPlay Music throught it

Oh, I understand your setup now as I thought you were just using Server to manage what ports are open on your Airport Extreme. I've had the same issue.

If you want to extend a wifi network that is using RADIUS, then you must plug the other base station into an ethernet backbone, as it cannot extend it by just being on the wireless network. So in this situation, your best bet is to run an ethernet wire to wherever your want your other Airport to be. I believe the newer Airport Expresses can handle RADIUS (but not sure, I just know the older ones have issues).

You could try setting up the Airport Express near the Extreme to test the ability of it to extend the wifi network that is managed by RADIUS. I know that having both Airports connect to an ethernet backbone is not ideal in some situations, but that is how RADIUS works. Even if you had another Airport Extreme, the WPA Enterprise (RADIUS) will prevent you from setting up an extended network with just Wifi like that support document shows.
