Q: how can I delete items out of the gmail archive

I went back into my account settings, and turned off the gmail archive items switch, however it seems there are messages stuck in the archive that still are being pulled to searches. I had the archive turned on erroneously -- and do not want to have ANY archived items. How can I delete the items in the gmail archive?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.2

The easiest way would be to log in to mail.google.com and delete them there.

I have done this -- but the items are NOT found in the mail.google.com archive on the web, however they are still appearing in the iPhone search feature on my phone (search the whole phone -- left swipe from the home screen).

Any other ideas? Or ... how can I clear out the search on the phone?

That's a different animal entirely.

Backup the phone, then restore it. That should clear the search index entirely.
