Add parallax to Motion Tracking

I tracked a shot of a camera tilting down oil derrick. I want to attach text to the track so it looks like the text is floating in front of the rig. I shifted the text down so it starts out of the frame. Easy enough so far:

The first trouble is that since the tracking doesn't go past the frame edge, the text will not exit the fame either.

Not a big deal, I could easily animate the last few frames by hand, or add another tracking point. But what I really want is a bit of parallax shift on the text so it appears to be closer to the camera. Easy enough, just add a Throw behavior or a few keyframes to the text object add some upward motion while it travels...

No, that doesn't work. The motion tracking overrides keyframes, motion behaviours and such.

Well then, I will just drop it in a group and animate the group...

Not so fast, the motion tracking overrides any motion attached to the group.

So I could not find a way to augment the motion of a motion tracked object. Anyone have any ideas on this, or is there just little need to do this when Motion tracking?

You need to do this. When Motion tracks, when the tracking point leaves the frame, it stops tracking. Move the playhead back a few frames until you can clearly see the tracking point.

Then in the Inspector check the "Offset Tracker" and pick a new traking point. Then hit Analyze again. This combines the first track up to that frame, then seemlessly switches to the second tracking point.

You can do this several times, too.

Next, you can do keyframes and Behaviors to your text when a Match Move is applied to it. I'm testing it now with a GrowShrink behavior, very much as you're discribing. Works great.

But a Throw behavior specifically isn't going to work, as you're effecting movement, which is what the Match Move does. You can't make an object move in two different directions at once.

But you want a Scale parameter change, not a Position parameter change. So try the Grow/Shrink behavior.

Actualy, you can use throw or just about any other animation with tracking behaviors. You have to remember to change the Transform option in Match Move to "Mimic Source" you probably have it set to "Attach to Source". Attach will act like a lock and hold the tracked object in place. Mimic will combine keyframed animation or other behaviors with the tracking animation.

It's not that you have to move the text that far. (I just tried this.)

Spilt the text track... Remove the match move behavior from the new text track.... Lineup the new text track to where the other text track stops... Add a position two key frames to the new text track and move it manually out of the frame. Adjust the key frame to adjust the speed of the text moving out of the frame.

You can do all of this in a few minutes and you can't tell that anything is amiss. Sometimes you have to do things manually. Alot of people do the whole thing manually. It's called rotoscoping,

hi,

all of the above. And you could simply increase the z space aparameter of the text object to bring it closer to the camera. This will start to give you the parallax look you want. Of course now your going to find you need to move your camera back to give distance between the footage and the text which means the camera will see past the edges of the footage which means you'll need increase the scale of the footage.
