Q: I purchase a Pro Retina machine to convert to Final Cut.  The Trial version of FCPX constantly crashes.  Apple support says there is no support for the trial version and will not tell me if there is a solution to this problem if I go ahead with purchasing

I have purchase a Pro Retina machine to convert to Final Cut Pro X.  The trial version constantly crashes.  Apple support says there is no support for trial versions and will not tell me if there a solution to the problem exists.  Am I suppose to spend more money just to learn there is no solution.  I have seen other posts on the same problem but no solutions.  Does any one know how to prevent these crashes and if after buying the software Apple has a solution?

Come on Apple, you are suppose to make stuff that works.

What are your Mac's specs?  Which specific model?  How much RAM?  What is your external drive for your Events and Projects?  That's all pretty important to trouble shoot your issues.

Also, when specifically does it crash?  What specifically do you do in FCP X that makes it crash?

You can try a few things.

1- Get the free "Preference Manager" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com).

2- You can run Disk Utility and "Repair" for all connected drives.

3- Be sure all attached drives have at least 10-15% of their total capacity as free space.

4- Move FCP X from the Applications folder to the Trash.  Launch the App Store app, go to the Purchases section, click Install for FCP X to do a fresh install.

I use a rMBP -- Fcpx NEVER crashes... It HAS LOTs of performance issues... BUT those are NOT related to the rMBP alone. But consistent across the board of all their computers.

There are times when FCPx runs like the wind and others where it flies like a rock as heavy as the state of NY.
