WHen I try to get mail on my iPhone I get the message 'The mail sever 'mail.bigpond.com" is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings.' I have checked and rechecked and it should work. Anyone have a solution?

I don't think this is an acceptable solution for the problem.
Apple does not provide any details to the connection problems and the settings can't be tweaked to make it work.
I am running iOS 8.4 and still have this problem with my mail account.
After removing and adding the account again, it works for some days, then it's broken again.
No hint in the server logs why this happens.
Now using Outlook for iOS because other mail clients happily send my account data to shady companies, which I do not support.
Very sad that Apple doesn't care about the ongoing problems with the mail app.
