My iPod Touch has just died. While transferring songs from iTunes, iTunes crashed on me and now my iPod is dead. I would assume what happened was a hard drive failure. Is there anything I can do to start it up, or will I have to go to an Apple store for repairs?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I tried all of that last night. Oddly enough, it was able to boot up after all the battery drained overnight. Thanks for the info anyways.
Yes, draining the battery fully and then charging frequenlty works and that is why it was included in mny first reply
