I'm trying to install Mac OS X from the cd. The time remaining for installation is about 36 minutes but it has been like this for an hour now. I've tried restarting it
And nothing works. What can I do ?

If you are trying to upgrade your old Tiger system, then I would recommend you just erase the drive and do a clean install of OS X.
I just want to get my Mac working again. I turned it on the other day and the disk utility popped up saying I need to install the Mac OS X again. I did erase the disk and lost all my files but now nothing seems to work. I repaired the disk and all but it won't install.
Are you using the installation disc that came with your MBP? Since you indicate that you have a mid 2010 MBP that should be a Snow Leopard disk (10.6). Is your Optical Drive working properly?
