How do I stop the earpods from becoming permanently unbalanced?

I got my first pair with my iPod touch 5. I noticed they became unbalanced about a week later. Then I got a new pair and now these ones are unbalanced. They both are unbalanced more to the right side and less to the left. Is there any way to stop this?
