What is the best Mac alternative to Tag & Rename

Hi

On my PC I near-daily used a programme called Tag&Rename to manually manage my MP3s.

I found itunes never tagged correctly and often screwed them up with wrong imagery etc.

Details of Tag&R here: http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm

Tag & Rename was ideal - I could change literally every tag in the MP3 - both singularly or as an album or compilation. It even allowed me to highlight a selection of MP3s and auto tag them according to Amazon - including adding file and folder images.

I've now replaced my PC with a Macbook Pro and sadly Tag&Rename is not available

Can someone advise me on the best alternative please - either as a software download or from the Mac App Store.

I'm happy to pay for it as I have a lot of MP3s and it something I used daily

Thanks in advance

I use TriTag for editing tags and Name Manglerfor file renaming. Both work very well, though TriTag is a bit cryptic at first and it's very easy to mess up the tagging if you're not careful. The latest version of iTunes is a disaster for tagging. The only thing I use it for is to embed cover art within the mp3 files themselves. Unfortunately, Apple decided that no one needs to see artwork until the file is playing, so you're mostly working in the dark. If you want to embed the cover art in each file, select the tracks in iTunes, right-click, Get Info, and then paste the cover art into the dialog.

Fatboyslick,

I have not found a program for the MAC as good as Tag&Rename. Music Tag Editor is as close as I can come to Tag&Rename. I have asked the developer of Tag&Rename if a MAC version would ever be possible for a MAC version and he indicated that he was currently working on one. I have no idea where he is at on the development.

The best thing about Tag&Rename was that I could tell it where to save the file by automatically telling it the drive\directory\artist name\album name\title.mp3

Music Tag Editor lets you rename the file and do a SaveAs but it is way to many steps and I have to change the directories for every artist. You can't create a driectory within the program....

So in short. There is nothing in the MAC world that is as good as Tag&Rename.

Unfortunately The Tagger does not do what I need it to do most. Take the MP3 from one location, set the tags correctly and take that file and move it to another location where my correctly tagged MP3's are located and save it so that a directory is created by artist, then Album and the file name gathered from the tags of Disc number_Title.mp3.

I haven't used tag&rename but I've heard its good. I've been looking for a tagging program for a bit now and the best I can find so far is a combination of Jaikoz and music tag editor. Jaikoz is pretty good as it searches 2 databases for you and can autocorrect information. It doesn't find everything but I was impressed with what it did, and you can see it updating on the fly. Music tag editor isnt bad either as its fairly straightforward and I use that for the manual stuff sometimes. both come with free trials so check them out and see if they'll work for you.

Thanks a lot, that was a revelation, it worked like a dream!

I did try Yate, but as far as I could tell, it only allows 3 templates for filename-to-tag conversions, whereas Tag&Rename allows you to specify any template you want. Also, Yate did not appear to be picking up the Music/Video Kind field, since it was displaying the current value. Worrying.

Then a comment on Tag Editor for Mac complained of the same (reversed) problem of limited tag-to-filename conversion formats.

In the end, its just not worth trying to learn and evaluate all those other tag editing applications, so I'll just stick with Tag&Rename running in PlayOnMac :-)

Tag & Rename works on PlayOnMac.

PlayOnMac is a Windows compatibility layer (but it's not a virtual machine). It's free and you don't need a Windows license either. First, you need to download and install PlayOnMac, then buy Tag & Rename and install it from within PlayOnMac.

After that, it just works like a usual app.
