My iPod nano 4th generation won't react to headphone's remote

So I have a 4 generation iPod nano with software version 1.0.4, but it wouldn't take commands from the headphone's remote, it doesn't pause, skip, or adjust volume with the remote. I've tried different headphones and still doesn't react to the headphone's remote. Please help.
