APPLE TV MIRRORING?

I am unable to use the Airplay Mirroring option on my MacBook Air. For some reason the Airplay Icon is not appearing on my screen at the top bar next to the WiFi. My Apple TV is on, the WiFi connection is secure and I dowloaded the newest software updates. Can anyone help explain what steps I may be missing?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer).
