I sent a text to someone I did not know while on vacation. They had their iphone hooked up to a small black device. Should I be worried that they were trying to hack my iphone? Is this possible to do remotely through an imessage?

I was sitting next to them at the pool and we started discussing some business ideas. He said to take his number down if I would like to contact him, then was persistant to text him my name so he would remember me. After he left my freind had said I am suprised you gave him your number & what was that black device hooked to his iphone. I had just assumed it was a power supply. Since then I have been paranoid about phone hacking.
