When I connect my iPod Touch to my iMac it does not show up as being connected no matter which USB port I use. When I charge the battery the battery charging symbol also does not show up. I am not able to download anything. What should I do?

I am very adept at computer. However, until recently I could plug in my iPod and download iTunes. Now I no longer can download ANYTHING from my computer. I am able to charge the battery but the symbol no longer shows up. Any suggestions?

iPod touch, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), novice user

Maybe this:

Try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
