I have just installed logic pro Version 9.1.1 to my new mac book , purchased in 2012 December. I am now being told my version of logic is not compatible with my version of OS X. Help!!!

How did you install Logic onto your new Mac Book?

From the App store or from the DVD boxed set?

If it was downloaded from the App store then it should already be v9.1.8... and if it isn't you need to call Apple to help you sort this out.

If it was originally from the DVD boxed set then you must update using software updates....

If software updates cannot find Logic to update it then you either have...

Renamed the Logic Pro app in which case rename it back to Logic Pro

or

The Logic Pro App is not in the applications folder which is where it needs to be to be updated... so move it back there.

The version on the DVDs is actually Logic Pro 9.0.0 (or in rare cases.. 9.0.1 ) which doesn't work with Lion or Mountain Lion... In some cases Logic then gets updated to 9.1.1 which still does not work correctly with Lion and Mountain Lion. (They both need Logic to be a minimum of 9.1.4 to work)

Then the new App Store/Software Update app updates Logic to 9.1.8 which does work with Lion and Mountain Lion.... as you found! 🙂

I am running Logic 9.1.8 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have been really reluctant to move to Mountain Lion for fear of encountering problems with Logic after upgrading the operating system - I use Mainstage in my live set up..

I am on tour in April and rehearsals are ramping up in the next few weeks so I was interested to read this thread. I wanted to get the OS on my macbook pro (on which Logic is installed) updated so I could use the cloud. Question is , do I risk it ?

I wish I had more confidence that I wouldn't encounter problems !

There is an easy thing to try..

Get either Carbon Copy Cloner or my personal fav SuperDuper! and make a clone of your system Hard drive to an ext HD.

Now upgrade to Mountain Lion.. install your Audio/midi drivers for ML.. and test....

If it all works okay then great... If not, you just restore from the Clone image you made and you are back to where you started with the minimal of hassle.

Having said that, unless you have a very good reason to update to ML... (ie you need iCloud etc and/or need to use your Mac for other purposes apart from Audio and you want the new features of ML) then stay with Snow Leopard and the working config you have...... as there are no gains to be made or benefits to enjoy from updating to ML in regards to using Logic/Mainstage itself.

I have a Mac Book pro from the mid 2012 running on Yosemite.

I installed Logic Studio (9.1.1) and it doesn't work.

I installed from DVD box set.

Logic pro is installed in the application folder and was not renamed.

Do I have to buy the new version again on the app store?
