Arranging files in exterior usb flash drives

How do I set the "arrange by", of my files to the particular arrangement that I desire on my exterior usb flash drives/hard drives, and not have to do it again on the next time that I open them? I've tried the "use as default" on one, but it wasn't available on another. Thank you in advance.

Try this: Open your flash drive and arrange your icons by name (or however you like). Click on the little wheel icon in the top row of the flash drive window and choose "Show View Options". Choose your preferences for viewing your files and then click on "Always open in icon view". Once you set this up, everything you open should be sorted and arranged the way you want them, and this should work the next time you use your flash drive. I think this should work for you; it seemed to work for me.
