Aperture 3 import order

When I import photos from a memory card for which I create separate folders for different project and picture taking time, it tends to organize the sorting according to the file names, which makes me to de-select everything (un-check all, upper side), select view in list (lower left), click date (to sort accordingly), select the bunch of file to create the project to import.

Do we have better workflow for this? I think Aperture 2 always remember the last setting (it means it always sort according to the date in my case).

Thanks for offering the help.

In fact, there are quite a lot of things which are better to be done at the importing moment (and that also becomes a parameter in the filter), for example, I shall rename the files (and give their version names), put in a certain (folder) location according to the project nature (I used referenced files), etc. I don't think it is a good idea to move and rename all these files after importing. It is more time consuming.

The date sorting is not perfect when reading the files in a project. I experience a lot of problems as I use two cameras and import those memory cards at different moment for a same project. If I sort a large number these files, it panics and the system becomes quite slow (hopefully somebody is not hacking my computer) give quite a lot of wrong order.

In fact, what I need is quite simple: when Aperture shows the available files in a memory card for importing, it can always show them according to their capture time.

Are your cameras set to "Mass storage" or "USB" (or equivalents of either)?

Exactly how are you importing? (Settings?, direct from camera or via card reader?, as files or as Finder folders?, etc.)

On my system (admittedly fast hardware with enough of RAM), there is almost no delay in re-sorting tens of thousands of Images in a Browser. And the sort is never ever "not perfect". I suggest immediately repairing or rebuilding your Library. (See this Apple support page for details.) Not sorting correctly is a symptom of a serious malfunction.

What are you Aperture and OS versions? Machine specs?
