Q: airport set up utility and drop-out

hi

i am experiencing a lot of drop out using airplay through one of my AXP. i have 2 AXP, one upstairs from the Base Station one downstairs from the Base Station. all airports have had the latest firmwear update.

 

trouble is the downstairs (1st flr) AXP drops Pandora when i use airplay from my iPhone. the 3rd flr AXP does not drop at all. I can play Pandora all day long through my iphone w/headphones just fine.

 

what i did notice is that a week ago the AP Set-up Utlilty had the dotted lines branching from the Base Station to each AXP, and now the dotted line goes directly to the 3rd flr AXP and then the dotted line goes to the 1st flr AXP (from the 3rd flr). It looks like the 1st flr AXP is feeding from the 3rd flr AXP as opposed directly from the base station which is physically closer to it

 

Set up was:

    BS

1st    3rd

 

Now is:

 

BS

3rd

   |

1st

 

 

can someone help me link the 1st flr AXP directly to the Base Station, and maybe explain why does it switch to be linked to the 3rd flr?

    Think of an extended wireless network as a wheel. In your case the "BS" would be at the hub of that wheel and each of the extending base stations would be on a different spoke. In the older WDS version, you could configure the base stations such as the BS would be the main, the "3rd" would be the relay, and the "1st" would be the remote ... but a WDS comes at a heavy performance cost.

     

    In a properly configured extended network, both the 1st and 3rd base station would be linked to the BS base station.
