My iphone has been stolen and its current location found, should I keep it on & active as I await police action?

Using the App Find my iphone, my stolen iphone has been located and I am attempting to get the police involved to the point of doing something about it, my iphone has a password in place, however, I am wondering, WHILE WAITING DAYS FOR THE BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA POLICE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS FELONY THEFT if I should keep the iphone on and active or turn it off?
