Feb 27, 2013 10:17 AM in response to Sharky12by Ralph9430,I use the Camera Connection Kit to import photos from my Camera. I connect the kit to my iPad, connect the USB cable to my camera and turn on the camera. The Import shows automatically and allows me to select photos to import. I select the photos and then tap on Import. I always leave the originals in my camera.
If you are importing from a car the photos need to be in a DCIM folder and have a name that is 8 characters long followed by the suffix. My camera uses the naming convention of img_0000.jpg and this works just fine.
What happens when you connect your camera and turn it on?

Feb 27, 2013 10:33 AM in response to Sharky12by Skydiver119,There does have to be something on the camera card to get the photos app to respond. Put in a blank card and you get nothing. Put in a card with improperly formatted images or video and you get nothing.
So if you're going to experiment, take a few photos and then use the card. Or put images onto the card (make a folder named DCIM, give the images 8 character file names (DSC_3452.jpg for example) and insert it and see what happens.

Feb 27, 2013 3:52 PM in response to Sharky12by Texas Mac Man,Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
