USB not recognized

Thunderbolt Cinema display connected to Mac Mini 2.6Ghz i7 w/ 16GB RAM 10.8.2

USB devices attached to display do not connect to MAC. Printer which was working through the display and a WD MyPassport (USB 3) both stopped being recognized by the display usb ports. When devices connected to the Mac Mini they work, the only problem is I dont have enough ports for all devices to plug in without using the Cinema Display USB Ports.

is there an upgrade for firmware or a special uplug replug regiment to get the display USB to start working again?
