That's not good news. It's almost certainly the hard drive on its last leg. Enjoy it while it lasts and it probably won't hurt anything to use it up to the end.
There are lots of repair places that will fix it when the hard drive needs to be replaced.
You might be suprised at how much money broken iPods bring on eBay. Just be honest in your listing.
