My iPad reset its own passcode

I rarely passcode my iPad. A couple days ago, I did, using my debit card PIN, and the first time I tested unlocking it, it worked. After leaving it for an hour, I came back and the passcode didn't work. I tried every similar pattern until it locked up but honestly, it's my PIN, I use it dozens of times a week, and plus I tested it, and I am certain the code changed by itself. I am the only one who knows my PIN.

I have been forced to restore it, but it was very inconvenient because I was 500 miles from home (and my sync computer) when this happened, and since I use the device for work I had to change my travel plans.

Is this a thing that happens? I don't see a lot of people complaining about this.

I'm an IT manager and just deployed a few hundred iPads, and we use Mobile Iron for device mgmt. We got a phone call from a user asking if we changed his passcode overnight... we figured he just forgot it and unlocked it. Still didn't work so we reset and re-enrolled in mobile iron. still not recognizing his passcode.

we ended up sending him a new iPad and I just got the defective iPad back... Again, I reset it, started over, enrolled in mgmt software and it is saying my passcode is wrong. repeat. repeat. I have no restrictions and my software is up-to-date.

Any ideas on what else I can check? I've deployed hundreds of iPads over the past few years and have never seen this one...

TIA

I posted a few months ago with the same thing... I tried everything. Fortunately the iPad was still under warranty, so I went to the genius bar. The guy tried all the same things I did and took it in the back so a few more geniuses could look at it. Needless to say, they were all stumped and had never seen this before. They gave me a new iPad, so I'm good to go.

ok, You are not crazy. I thought maybe I was until I came across this posting. I just set my passcode when I upgraded to IOS 7. Five minutes later I cannot log onto my iPad and it is disabled. My passcode seems to be incorrect and I cannot gain access to my iPad. I DID NOT fat finger or mistake my passcode. I think 5555 is a very simple code to remember and to enter, so how did it change? There is a bug with this device and I think it is in the hardware coding, not the software. Something caused the system to not capture the passcode correctly and now I have to reset my device and lose my data because of the manufacturer. Not happy about this at all.

The gremlins have been at work in Australia too. The device was bought through Kogan HK. Last week, my son's iPad 4 which he's had for 2 years changed its own passcode. It's the same passcode he's always used, he uses the device several times a day for school and play, he'd used it just an hour earlier and it worked fine and then inexplicably it rejected the passcode an hour later. After entering the proper passcode a number of times the device locked him out.

I am not sure if there is any connection, but it was a Christmas present in 2012 and the lockout occurred about a week ago, which may coincide with the anniversary of when he first set up his iPad and entered the passcode.

I've had the same "simple passcode" for 4 years on multiple iPhones and iPads. Today, I decided to reboot my iPad Air 2, but when it came back from the reboot my passcode didn't work. It worked fine an hour ago, but now it doesn't. I haven't been in the settings app at all, nobody else has access to the device and the device is not configured with any management software. This happened completely on its own - via a bug or some sort of virus. (My device is not jail-broken.). During the hour between the last time my passcode worked and the reboot, I used TouchID to unlock it several times.

As an IT professional that deals with unknowledgeable users and users that lie or have poor memories, I wouldn't have believed the password had changed itself it hadn't just happened to me.

I'm going to try the hard reset to see if that works, but my latest backup is not nearly as recent as I'd like it to be. How many attempts do we get before we're locked out permanently?
