5th gen iPod nano won't turn on/charge?

I was listening to it earlier today with the battery about half full, but when I touched the wheel to wake up the screen, nothing happened, and none of the buttons worked. The music kept playing, even when I took my headphones out and put them back in. I left it alone for a while, and when I tried to put the headphones in again a few hours later, the music had stopped. I tried to reset it, but nothing happened. I tried plugging it into my computer to charge it, but it wouldn't charge or turn on. iTunes won't recognize it. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is there a way I can fix it without taking it to the Apple Store?
